ENPRO 2.0 – ModuLA

Modules in the Life Cycle of a Process Plant - Applications for Integrated Models

In order to make chemical production more flexible, to minimize energy requirements and to reduce the time to market for a product, there is a growing demand for modular plants, i.e., plants that are composed of standardized and configurable modular process equipment assemblies. A major challenge in module-based plant engineering or in the implementation of brownfield projects involving modules is the provision of information models for the entire life cycle of a module and their integration by means of information technology.

In the project ENPRO 2.0 ModuLA (Module im Lebenszyklus einer prozesstechnischen Anlage - Anwendungen für integrierte Modelle), an information model based on ISO 15926 was developed that meets this requirement. The consistent reuse of existing domain models and, in particular established exchange formats is characteristic. In this way, the efforts for implementing the information model within existing software tools in the process industry can be significantly reduced. In ModuLA, the information model was validated using prototypical software tools for various applications in conventional and modular engineering and in the operation of production plants.

The requirements for this information model were derived from application scenarios based on specific processes and systems. When developing the scenarios, current and industrially relevant challenges were addressed. This was ensured by the associated partners of the project, i.e., BASF SE, Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH, and Evonik Operations GmbH.

The project was carried out within the ENPRO project network in exchange and in cooperation with other projects in the network. More information is available on the pages of the exchange platform ENPRO Connect.
